Alpha Testers wanted

Postby geeffland » Sun Nov 15, 2009 2:26 am

CB Connector ( CBC ) v2.5 is ready for an early alpha release. v2.5 is a port of v2.0 from being a Joomla! 1.0.x Community Builder ( CB ) Plugin to being a native CB 1.2.1 plugin. This change enables the CB Connector to work in the various CMS versions that CB works in more easily.

Requirements:
- Compatible CMS
- Compatible Forum
- php 5+
- CB 1.2.1+
NOTE: This version no longer uses the xajax mambot but will run if the mambot is installed.

Compatible CMS Software:
- Joomla! 1.0.x
- Joomla! 1.5.x
- Mambo 4.6.x.

Compatible Forum Software:
- phpbb2
- phpbb3
- Categories Hierarchy ( CH )

Software included in Early Alpha Release:
- CB Connector v2.5.0 Alpha
- CBC Query Module v2.5.0 Alpha
- CBC Searchbot v2.5 Alpha ( For Joomla! 1.0.x and Mambo 4.6.x )
- CBC Search Plugin ( For Joomla! 1.5.x )

CBC Wrapper is NOT included in this early Alpha Release.

CBC had a 40+ user alpha test group on previous versions. This did not work too well as most of the testers were simply wanting an earlier download of the product versus do testing and report back findings. As with most other software in Alpha stages or Beta stages the author is generally looking for feedback to help make the program as bug free as possible. Usually in the Beta stage there is a few bugs anticipated, and in the Alpha stage bugs are expected. Although v2.5 is mainly a port of v2.0 I am expecting a few issues to pop up since this plugin is intended to work on multiple CMS platforms. When users are just wanting to get an early release they generally end up disappointed because of the bugs which happen in the early alpha or beta stages. So with that in mind I am starting this thread to solicit people to apply to be on the test team.

So if you are interested in being an Alpha Tester, reply to this thread with information on which features you plan to test as well as any background info that might be helpful in deciding if you would be a good tester. I will likely have a feature list or other similar test matrix prepared for the start of the official testing.
Thanks,
Greg

My main interest in being an alpha tester is to establish the interactivity between Joomla 1.5 and phpBB2 - although I am quite happy to run phpBB3 as well
I have a fairly high volume phpBB2 forum as it interacts with a Yahoo group via mail2forum and then sorts those Yahoo posts into categorized forums.

So I guess the main things I would be testing would be the ability to synchronize users between Joomla /CB and phpBB2 particularly in the email address area.

I am currently alpha testing mail2forum and providing feedback as that progresses which is really slowly and which also may never come to fruition - so I am very keen to assist where I can in terms of test this release of CBC as I have a vested interest in seeing it succeed - as currently it will be the only bridge available for Joomla 1.5 to phpBB2 - which is something that quite a few of us out here in Joomla land need to keep our forums interactive with mailing lists in Joomla 1.5

*vollunteering as alpha tester*

I would be testing
- Joomla! 1.5.14
- phpbb3
- CB 1.2.1
- php 5.2.9

My main check will be, logging in and out in joomla. Especially the "stay-logged-in" option.
I will do my best to discribe my findings about cbc. And hope you do something with that.

Tastiger,

Would you be willing to test CBC with your phpbb2 / Mail2Forum site ( or similar test site initially ).

Note you may need this file to test with m2f... have not tested m2f for a while so not sure if they fixed the issue or not... first try without then with if needed... Fix is in page 1 of this thread ( http://www.joomlapolis.com/component/op ... 641/#68641 ) If you don't have a joomlapolis account let me know and I will repost the file that was submitted.

dv031,

Would you be interested in double-checking the language file for Dutch and/or add another language file for another language?
Thanks,
Greg

I am more than happy to test with mail2forum can also do a Windows and Linux test to see if all works fine on both platforms.

I have a Joomopolis account so I get organized and report back on any issues...
